about the art
I am interested in confronting anthropocentric activity, with a focus on our complex relationship with animals. Through sculpture and installation I explore ways to demonstrate and convey human detachment from animals.Reoccurring concerns within the work include visibility, objectification, manipulation, trauma and empathy.
My practice is the result of interdisciplinary research, drawing on philosophical literature about embodied and emotional existence, as well as the chronological development of philosophical thought on animals throughout history. The work aims to act as a dysfunctional mirror in the stymied attempt of trying to see ourselves. |
