about the art
My main area of interest is in drawing from life. To try to capture a scene or a portrait in a way that projects my own reality of the world around me. Therefore, I try to infuse my own imagination and interpretation of the subject into the artwork. Rather than look for perfection I look to find the imperfections which make every person and every scene individual as well as encompassing the external factors such as light and atmosphere to present a snap shot of the moment in time. I love to work in chalk pastel and charcoal as it brings me in direct contact with my piece. I enjoy working with the model and consider each piece a collaboration as each model projects their own essence to the piece using their body to convey a hint of their inner being. I also enjoy the freedom of working straight from my imagination to create pieces that require the viewer to come to their own understanding of the message I am attempting to convey and in a way to make it a collaboration between them and me.
