The Sum of All Parts, is a fresh and innovative project based upon STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math), which is an extension of the original STEM theme. A touring exhibition, this project will consist of science-influenced art installations, complemented by seminar talks delivered by the artist Angela Gilmour and supported by researchers in the Tyndall National Institute/IPIC.
The mobile exhibition will consist of a series of installations and print work, which involves the deconstruction of scientific equipment, reducing them to their basic components, and transforming them into three-dimensional dissection revealing the hidden architecture within and the intricate mechanisms that record our surroundings. The instruments used for the exhibition were selected from a variety of periods from 1916 to 2016. To be shown throughout County Cork from July to December, funded by Science Foundation Ireland and supported by IPIC, Tyndall National Institute, UCC, Cork County Libraries and the National Sculpture Factory in Cork.

15, 16 & 17 July: Piotr Zbierski Photography Masterclass
http://corkphoto.com/project/piotr-zbierski-photography-masterclass/
Sample-Studios Auditorium, 3rd Floor (beside TACTIC gallery)
Date: 3 day Masterclass – Friday 15th, Saturday 16th, Sunday 17th July
Time: 10am – 6.30pm each day
Cost: €400 per participant
Application Deadline: July 5th (see details below)
The workshops of Piotr Zbierski are an intensive photographic journey to the interior of each student’s approach. This journey will explore questions and doubts that arise in your photographic practice and help you to progress and be more conscious as an artist. Zbierski will inspire you in the use of the photographic medium – film and others – to create work that stems from private and personal feelings, and that – during the process of creation – appears to become universal for the viewer.
Piotr Zbierski is a photographer and traveller, awarded in 2012 with Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award and chosen in 2015 to be part of Regeneration3 by the Musée de l’Elysée. His work is exhibited internationally. Zbierski is a PhD candidate at the Polish National Film, Television and Theater School (PWSFTviT) in Lodz.
During the masterclass Zbierski will give presentations, lectures, consultations and reviews of your work, to inspire you and build a more critical relation with your own work. He will provide insight and advice relating to your photographic practice, preparing the pictures for printing and publication, and will teach practical ways of working with galleries and institutions.
The aim of the masterclass is to inspire you in your future work and impart a strong portion of experience and knowledge.
To apply: Please send us a portfolio of 10-20 low resolution images together with a short text about your artistic approach to: workshoptiff@gmail.com by July 5th.
There will be an open presentation of participants’ work on Tuesday 19 July at Sample-Studios as part of Cork Photo 2016.
29 & 30 July, 7pm: Artist Talk | David Kileen | To You I Follow
http://corkphoto.com/project/david-killeen-follow/
A photo series by Irish photographer David Killeen is set in Switzerland based on a journey made by an un-named British couple in 1935. It is the telling of a story in retracing this couples journey around Switzerland recounting the events that unfolded along the way using the personal account documented in their photo album.
The album documents the couple’s travels to Switzerland between late August and early September of 1935 consisting of the original, caption-dated photographs and an accompanying map that traces their route. In a unique approach in 2010, three-quarters of a century after the couple’s trip to Switzerland, Killeen documents the exact scenes that are recorded in the album as they appeared on the exact dates 75 years later.
Beginning with the purchasing of the album for less than £10 the story charts the retracing of steps in the couples’ journey and the revelations that unfold highlighted in the a multitude of changes that can be observed today in the environmental, historical, and sociological landscape.
Performance begins at 7pm on Friday the 29th and 30th of July, duration of the performance will be an hour and 45 minutes with an intermission.
