Emmet Brickey is a painter and recently graduated with 1st Class Honours from Crawford College of Art and Design (2016). He received numerous awards for his painting installation along with the UCC Art Collection Purchase Award from the Lewis Glucksman Gallery.
My practice explores the notions of solitude as a concept only possible within the presence of a society. Finding resolution in oil painting, reference materials are sourced through the application Google Street View. This mode of collecting imagery to create personal documentation assists my interests in the impact of the digital age in our society; particularly its concerns with cultural homogenisation.
A variety of painting processes are used to avoid pure representation. Blurring imagery with static layering of paint, I intend to encourage debate over the depiction of critical space. White is recursive in my work, aiming to offer possibilities - or the potential loss of information on the fleeting relevance of place and time in the digital age.
