My practice varies from millinery to illustration with lots of creative exploration in between. I have been creating bespoke bridal headpieces under the name 'Opal & Owl', for nearly three years now. My pieces have been featured on international magazines, wedding blogs and local press. Illustration is a very important aspect of what I do. Recently I have collaborated with a local business in rebranding their image. The illustrations I created for them have been used in all aspects of their rebrand and I have been asked to work on further projects as a result of this.
I am a secondary school Art teacher in Cork Educate Together Secondary School (CETSS) which opened in August, 2016. This is the first post-primary educate together secondary school in the South of Ireland (www.cetsl.ie). In the past three months Aideen Quirke and I organised an educational collaboration between Sample Studios and CETSS. The whole school visited Sample in the first week of September where 22 of the artists in Sample met with and explained their work and creative process to the students. Following that visit the artists agreed to make themselves available as mentors to the group as they progress through the year in art class. Aideen and other artists in Sample have also given printmaking workshops in the school and these will be repeated throughout the year.
