Aideen Quirke is a multidisciplinary artist and Artistic Director of Sample-Studios, Cork. Quirke established the artist-in-residence programme at Sample-Studios in 2012. She has previously worked at the Office of Public Works, Tipperary, Lismore Castle Arts, Waterford, the Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, and the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, UCC Cork as a group facilitator. Quirke has organised and curated a number of projects over the past ten years, including exhibitions and performances at Electric Picnic Festival, Body & Soul, Cashel Arts Festival, Co.Tipperary, Birr Arts Festival, Co. Offaly, TACTIC and Sample-Studios, Cork. Her upcoming curatorial projects in 2017 include the Cork Midsummer Festival, an exhibition at CIT Wandesford Quay Gallery in February, and a series of curated slack spaces in collaboration with artist Kathryn Kelly.
Her own practice involves working across a variety of disciplines including painting, sculpture and video. Projects are research-based, merging collaboration and performance, and often open-ended, due to the ongoing questioning and unresolved nature of experiences of physical environments. Ideas around physicality, both of the body and the space it occupies, landscapes, materiality, and existence are explored.
